Christina Oakley Harrington is a British scholar-practitioner of Western esotericism and contemporary Paganism. She is best known as the founder and director of Treadwell’s Books in London, established 2003 and now globally recognized as a meeting point between practitioners and researchers of Western esoteric traditions. A former academic historian, she now writes on the practices of initiatory British Wicca and wider Pagan spiritualities in Europe, Britain and North America. In both scholarly and esoteric circles she is respected as a fosterer of dialogue and collaboration. Harrington was raised in non-Western cultures (Liberia, Myanmar, and rural Chile), which drives her advocacy for magico-religious folk religions traditionally ridiculed or demonised. Her impact is significant through her community work, her visibility in national media and her public lectures.
In addition to directing Treadwell’s, Harrington researches and writes, her publications spanning scholarship, journalism, and narrative nonfiction. She was co-founder and co-editor of the acclaimed journal Abraxas: International Journal of Esoteric Studies. Her books are Women in a Celtic Church, Treadwell’s Book of Plant Magic, and Dreams of Witches.
